Is it ok to move?

matt892 May 31, 2005 11:34 PM

My ball python has been soaking in his water bowl since about 1am this morning and I want to move him to clean out the water and make sure he doesnt have mites or if he is ready to shed. The problem is he just ate yesterday and I dont really want to mess up his digestion of the mouse. Is it ok if I move him out of the bowl for a bit to check the water for mites and put fresh water in?

You should be fine. What are his temps? Reptiles will often do this to cool down.

Temperatures are 90* on the hot side, 80* in the middle and I'm assuming mid to upper 70*s on the cool side (I need to get another thermometer on that side) with a humidity of 60%.

On a side note, I saw him get out and go hide under the branches I have set up in the cage, but when I woke up he was back in the water.

Is the water in the cool end? It could be he feels safe there. Try another hide in the cool end.

Water is in the middle of the cage. I have a hide box on both the cold and hot sides, with a climing branch that has a hole through it at the bottom he also hides in.

He just got out an hour ago and went to the warm side hide box. So I'm assuming he just liked hanging out there.

On a side note: I checked the water and everything checked out fine and he pee'd.
