most people working on those just look around for 'darker' geckos and are selectively breeding them. they're not well-established yet.

With so many people who know people in this forum, no one has any knowledge about where to get Melanistics, I am a sucker for spots!

I like the melanistic geckos too and I know that www.geckoranch.com has had some melanistic babies in the past. When I talked to her earlier this year she said that she'll probably have more this year too so you might e-mail her and see if she's got any.

There are no such thing as melanistic leopard geckos..... The real dark babies always turn out to be normal looking adults....

Selectivly bred "darker" leos are not melanistic.... I dont even think they should be called hyper melanistic.... There are no true examples of melanistic leos anywhere at this point in time, anywhere....

Greg I am looking to get very spotty leopards, what color pattern or morph would it be? I am not looking for all black leopard, just either a high yellow or tangerine with a lot of black beauty marks

Yellowconda,
You would be looking for just somewhat normal wildtype leos or maybe even hypos.... They are beautiful..... If you look on most dealers web pages, you should be able to find some awesome looking normals or hypos with nice bold spotting.... Good luck...

If you're looking for leopards with increased melanin (darker) you want Hyper-Melanistic Leopards.

Hypo-Melanistic (Hypo & Super Hypo) is reduced melanin.

Technically melanistic leopards would only be normal patterned or wild type.

Looking at the google search, most mistakenly use "melanistic leopards" for hyper-melanistic leopards.

There are no examples of true melanistic leos in ANY collection.... True melanistics will show absolutly no sign of a pattern at all..... Melanistic animals are ALL black.... Melanism is passed on geneticaly, not by line breeding....
