Geographic range of C. mitchellii?

Lichanura Jun 01, 2005 11:00 AM

I would like to know the southern-most range of C. mitchellii stephensi and the northern-most range of C. m. pyrrhus. The field guides show them as having a contiguous range. The area around Victorville, CA does not look like mitchellii country to me. Anyone know of any around there?

I have found C Mitchelli all the way down in Baja, but they are ugly. How are the babies doing? I am still hoping to find one.

Hello: I have found them in Baja also, but I want to do research on their range here in southern California. I believe that the range books (field guides) are off on this one.

The babies are doing great. Still having some problems sexing them. Sometimes I think that they are males then again I change my mind. I need to probe them. Thanks for asking.

Many years ago when I did the mitchellii Catalogue account for SSAR we based the maps on localities of specimens collected in museums. At the time, they were as accurate a map as we could generate. Take a look and see if they answer your questions? Good luck, Hugh

Sounds like a good place to start. Thank you, I will look up the Catalogue account for SSAR.

Is this Hugh McCrystal? This is Dave Spiteri. I think of you often and the help that you were when I was doing my rosy research. Thanks again.

...& furthurmore...why dont the specs range over into the mountains W of Tucson as they are sympatric w/ tigers in the Phx area??
I have had the pleasure of discovering their NE distribution limit; the area just N of Carefree Az where they are sympatric w/ tigers/atrox & cerbs.
Id also like to know their distr. in Sonora.

Cheers, RxR
