morph questions/feeding

reptile30 Jun 01, 2005 11:20 AM

i know this probly gets asked all the time but, what would happen if you breed a 100%male het albino to a 50% het female albino,
how much would a 50%het albino adult female cost about

are there any morphs (besides like reduced) that i could get for less that $500,

as for feeding
i have my male on carpet now it doesnt hold hum. good it is like 45-50 now. are there any substrates that look nice that holds hum. good that i could use

and do you guys feed ur balls in there cages if so do u use loose substrate and how do u get them not to eat any substrate and could post some pics of yourcages

thanks

>>what would happen if you breed a 100%male het albino to a 50% het female albino,

If the female carries the albino gene then you would theoretically (in a clutch of four) end up with one albino, one normal and two hets (all of which would look normal). If the female does not carry the albino gene then you would have four normal looking snakes two of which might be het for albino.

I haven't seen many around so couldn't tell you exactly most people hold their females back to prove them. I would think they'd run about the price of a regular female maybe a bit more $100-$125 give or take.

Granites

Cypress mulch looks good and holds humidity. Reptibark, Aspen.

I don't feed in their cages or tubs unless they are picky eaters that need that comfort. I use aspen in my tubs sometimes they eat it sometimes they don't.

Maybe I didn't read it right, but do you feed all 40 of your bps plus other snakes outside of their cages?? Doesn't that take forever?

May I ask why you do this?

LOL - I feed two nights a week and usually feed about 15 per night, and I do have some insecure ones that feed in their cages. But for the rest I line up some feeding tubs on my pool table, feed a group, while they are feeding I clean out their tubs, when they are done, I put them back, clean out the feeding tubs and start the next group. It's really not as hard as it sounds. It takes about an hour a couple nights a week. Grant it, it's not just dropping a rat in a tub, but it works for me.

Hey Tosha-

Have you had any problems handling your snakes immediately after feeding them? Or is it not a big deal to pick them up and place them back into their cage after they eat? Also, are babies more prone to regurgitation or is this process ok with all ages?

Thanks!
Bruce

I don't really handle them, just lift them out of one tub and place them in another. I've never had a regurge so I'll assume that it's ok.

It seems like regular adult females run $250 - $500 now days with all the co-dominant males that can make many times over that with them the first year. Of course you might find one cheaper if you look around at a pet store or in a newspaper classified but that seems to be about the going online price for nice captive females with a known history from people who know the business.

I wouldn't sell any of my adult unbreed 50% possible het albino girls for less than $1,000 (actually I wouldn't even sell for that but if I had to that is what I would ask).
