Sand Type

Animalfarie15 Jun 01, 2005 01:00 PM

My recent bought beardie came on what I think is calci-sand. I have heard that this type of sand is bad for causing impaction. So I bought some Marine Sand. Its very fine and looks like its non- abrasive. I havent put it in his tank yet though so I am trying to figure out if it is really bad for him. Also he is about a foot long if not longer. Hes only stayed here a day so I dont want to change it to soon. Also what type of water bowl do you guys use with beardies?

I don't know about marine sand, I've always heard that sifted pre-washed playsand (like you get at Home-Depot) is best. Definitely get the calci-sand out though. As for the water bowl, most people don't use one. Misting the dragon and his/her greens (daily for a foot-long dragon) and bathing once a week is usually enough.

Thank you. But since it is his second day here is it to early to change his cage?

I don't know, see if anyone else replies, then, if no one does, I would go ahead and change it...

I would definately change him off the calci-sand. Ideally off sand period, but if you do decide to go with sand the finest grain possible is best

Since he is new, right? It would probably be best to change him into his new cage asap because you do not want him to settle into the cage you have right now and then change him and stress him out until he settles once again. So i would think it would be best to get all the stress over with in one time? I dont know maybe some one else has something to say.
