Egg bound Gray-banded

RAC Jun 01, 2005 02:55 PM

My poor Blair's has laid eight eggs, but the last one may be bound. It has moved down near the vent, but has been about 36 hours since it has moved. Several of the eggs were slugs, and I suspect this is the problem with the last one.

I would greatly appreciate any suggestions on what do here. Thanks in advance.

egg binding

Get the egg out by palpating it. I take mine to a Veterinarian for this. If the egg does not come out, it could kill the snake. The egg is bad, trust me. Take care of this ASAP.

Rac:
I've managed to gently palpate a few eggs out, but sometimes the egg is too large, or it is hardened somewhat and doesn't want to come out easily. In such cases I aspirate the egg. I use a 12cc syringe with a needle sufficiently large to allow the fluid to be extracted. This needs to be done carefully, but it isn't that difficult. I would suggest you find someone to hold the snake while you aspirate.
After aspirating much of the liquid the snakes are usually able to pass it on their own, or you can again try to palpate it out, gently.
