New Snake Arrival Notes

caecilianman02 Jun 01, 2005 08:18 PM

Hi Everyone,

Today the three snakes came, and I opened and inspected the shipment upon arrival. Looks like two Western worm snakes and a Northern brown. The worm snakes are amazing. They are difficult to care for, and hate being handled, so I just let them crawl into the vivarium, and left them alone. Beautiful, irridescent, shiny blue above, with a flattened, hot pink venter with a transluscent cast to it.
The DeKay is the fattest I have ever sen. It has GOT to be gravid! All the way from it's bloated tail, right up to it's neck, it is absolutely gigantic. The thing is so huge that you cannot even believe it. It's SO heavy for a little snake too! You can see bulges where the tiny amniotic sacs are. Very fat snake, and due any day. It is also the most odd brown snake that I have ever seen. It is completely patternless. It has no markings whatsover, and is an entirely light brown color. I have confirmed that it is indeed a brown snake, but at fist glance, it looks like a smooth earth snake.
It is a giganic small snake, with a very yellowish venter, and a completely brown/gray dorsal. It's head is also much smaller than other brown snake heads that I have seen, but that is what I have- a Storerea. Still, I have never seen any other snake in this genus like it.
I call this morph... "Mocha Madness!"

oh they sound nice. are the dekay snakes same as red belly snakes?

same genus different species. I would like to see a picture of that brown snake it sounds very unusual, why are you so sure its a brown snake?

okay thanks. I am suprised red belly snakes arent that popular I read they arent as secretive as most of the small native snakes plus easy to feed worm eaters.

Small snakes in general are not as popular by comparison, but they do have a loyal following. The red belly is one of my favorites as well.
