Sloughing Records?

McDowelliCheynei Jun 01, 2005 10:31 PM

Just a request for sloughing records of any keepers willing to publish, regarding the coastal and jungle carpets??

I understand that all snakes records will differ greatly, was just interested to see if there are any general patterns...

Thanks in advance

Cheers.

Here are the records for three '04 JCPs that I have. The breeder included shedding records since they hatched, so this is for their whole life up to date. I included approximate weights for the sheds since I have had them.

Male

7/18/04
8/2/04
8/19/04
11/27/04 (~100g)
12/18/04 (~120g)
1/15/05 (~145g)
1/24/05 (~140g-no meals since last shed, switched to new larger cage just after last shed)
3/3/05 (~250)

Female 1 (good eater)

7/20/04
8/19/04
11/21/04 (~100g)
1/24/05 (~150g-switched to larger cage as well in mid Jan)
3/5/05 (~200g)
5/25/05 (~350g)

Female 2 (picky eater)

7/20/04
8/19/04
11/7/04 (~65g)
1/23/05 (~70g-switched to larger cage as well in mid Jan)
5/21/05 (~125g)

It looks like (but who knows with only a sample size of 3) when I switched them over to a new larger enclosure it kind of caused them all to go into shed. Even the male that had just shed on 1/15 shed just after being put in the new cage, and he hadn't eaten a thing since the last shed. Interesting. Thanks for asking about this because if someone hadn't I wouldn't have taken the time to analyze this info at all. Hopefully someone can chime in with some more info though.

No problem. It is nice to see people thinking about their animals like that and asking questions. I have kept data on them, but, like I said, I wouldn't have analyzed it today if you hadn't asked about it. I usually use the info to check and see how fast hatchlings have grown in the past for me, and when breeding, ovulating, and egg laying has occured for certain females. Taking a few minutes to pay attention to sheds was interesting. Anyway, like I said, I hope other people will add to this. I like thinking about this kind of stuff.
