Opinions on my Home built stand please

kyle1745 Jul 13, 2003 08:03 AM

When I first started setting up my Azureus tank the intent was to put the tank in the living room. Realizing store bought tanks stands were WAY over priced I kept the tank in my room on a dresser until I could build my own.

I used a 2x4's, glue, and deck screws for the frame, then finishing nails, plywood and molding for the outside. Then I primed and painted it black. My wife is going to paint a design on the black, but for now my part is done.

Only think I would do different next time is put molding at the top also. All in all it cost about $50-60, and about a days work. I did have to spend an extra $30 for a sander since I did not have one. The dimensions are 31.23 x 13.625 x 36.

Looks Great to me the only thing i might have done differently is use a gloss or semi-gloss paint instead of flat. maybe it is just the picture it just looks flat to me.

Anyway i still like it

Yes it is flat, I would have like glossy also, but the flat better matched the room its in.

Either way it looks great nice and clean and it is definitely better to have it match the room than be a sore thumb

Agreed and also much better than a crappy unstable store bought one that is $150 or more.

Nice job, Kyle. You beat me in finishing yours before I got to mine! :0 I have the carcass for mine, but I'm trying to match this cabinet style and color with my entertainment center. I'm going to use 1/4" oak veneer plywood under oak faceframes (because I have quite a bit of oak in my shop). I really like the base molding you used . . . I'm definitely going to use one on mine now. Thanks for sharing!

Np, like I said I should have put some molding at the top also. Waiting to see what my wife paints on the black. Should make it less dull.

I like it. Good balance of greenery and the rolling hill makes for nice effect.
