Feeding while in shed?

OC-Balls Jun 02, 2005 08:48 AM

I'm sure this as been asked a million times, but I just can't get the results i'm looking for with search.

Is it a bad idea to offer food, while in shed? I know that the snake knows the answer better than any of us, I just always thought it was a bad idea (possibly cracking the skin too early, and causing problem sheds).

Any thoughts or experiences?
Thanks,
Ken

I was always told when the snake is in shed leave it alone. After I joined this forum tho, I noticed lots of pictures of people handling and feeding thier snakes during shed. So I asked the same question and after hearing a lot of people say that they do keep to their feeding schedule, I decided to give it a try. Most of my snakes will continue to feed as normal during their shed cycle, some will pass if they are in full blue, but will eat as soon as they clear up before they shed. I haven't seen any ill effects this may have on their cycle. Hope this helps.

Not an expert by any stretch but both our snakes seem to eat just fine as long as their eyes have cleared. (The female has an appetite and I think she would even try to eat even if she couldn't see)
