Hello, I'm new to the forum and just wanted to know if it was easy to tell a garter from a ribbon. I'm visiting Wisconsin from a ways a way so am not familiar with the local snakes. I found what looks to be a garter snake, rather short, about 20 inches going into a shed. If it where a "common garter snake" as suggested on the wisconsin herp atlas, it is still different than the ones I"m used to seeing at home. There is on picture of a ribbon snake available. I do have a few "okay" pics, and will post them as soon as the wife gives back the camera
