Merlin, thinking his way outside of the box. . .

althea Jun 02, 2005 08:03 PM

This is my male '02 childrens python (antaresia childreni), Merlin. He is so aware of husbandry routines that he knows when it's time for me to clean his enclosure and for him to go into his feeding box. Per ususal, he doesn't like it when he is not first to be cared for. Usually he coils up on top of his cave and watches me, but this day he decided to find a way into the feeding box by himself(LOL). Do other antaresia keepers find them to be extremely alert and inquisitive? My three are always the first out of their hides the minute the herp room door opens.

althea

I have always found Antaresia to be very inquisitive much of the time. They certainly do not shy away when the cage door is opened. Too bad they don't come in albino; they would be all the rage.

markg,
I have to agree with you--albino antaresia would be awesome! Still, their natural irridescence in sunlight is beautiful to see. My guys are representing Australia in a one week "Reptiles Around the World" camp this coming week. It's fortunate that not only can Merlin not get out,but the cage clips are such that children cannot get in. It will be interesting to observe whether or not he retreats into his hide box when his enclosure is amid busy children. My gut tells me that he will be on top of his hide, watching the world go by!
Thanks for responding--

regards,
althea
