Granite to Granite breeding results

reptileman1 Jun 02, 2005 09:17 PM

Anybody out there bred Graite to Granites yet? My own results have me puzzled. Here they are:

1.0 Granite #40 x 0.1 Granite #44 - 3.3 NORMALS
1.0 Granite #40 x 0.1 Granite #2 1.0 NORMAL, 0.1 GRANITE

OK, what gives? The first breeding MAY be tainted w/ PJ genes since 0.1 #44 Granite bred to only PJ's last year and sperm retention is a POSSIBILTY BUT I would have suspected a PJ out of this batch IF the PJ sperm WERE retained.

I'll post photos of both parents later. All are VERY good examples of the Granite morph and are all 6 years old.

Hey Alan,

Have you proven them to be genetic in previous years?

I have a few that I think will prove out too. One female is awesome...I bred her to a pastel last year and got a small clutch...only four eggs. I didn't hatch anything that looked like the granite female. I hope that I just missed. I'll try again next year.

I bet that in the next few years we are going to see a lot of granites that don't prove to be genetic (especially with the influx of balls with one dot out of place being sold as granites). It is going to come down to a case by case basis.
I sure hope mine prove....I like them a lot. It would be a shame if they weren't genetic.

Good luck with yours.....post some pics.

Some are co-dom, incomplete dom or dom. And I think Rob from RK Reptiles has a simple recessive granite, but dont quote me on that.Granites have been rumored to produce some crazy stuff, well actually not rumured they produce much more then the super stripe and ebony. The genetic ones are worth their weight in gold. Good luck with those

Actually the Super Stripe did not come froma granite line at all...........I believe I proved a co-dom Gold Stripe.....which could be the first proven line of co-dom sripes......

I will know more in the coming months.....

We are still working on doing more proving on our line this year and next but as of now it appears to be co-dom/dom. We are expecting eggs right no from the son (granite & a little something else) bred to the mother (a grantie & def. something else)so hopefully more of the granite riddle will be figured out soon.

we did prove out a granite female that we have this year when we bred her to our Mojave to produce 1.1 Granite Mojaves, 1.1 Granites and 5.2 Mojaves. Ralph Davis also has a couple of proven lines of Granites that he told me about in a recent email, and I'm sure there are many others.

(IMHO) You have to continue to breed them to find out if they are or aren't genetic. Just because you don't get Granites or Super Granites from a breeding doesn't mean that they aren't genetic it may just mean that the odds weren't with you on those clutches.

Keep trying just look at all the posts on here about how long people have worked to produce a single morph, it takes time to work out genetics.
