illness question

What would could my Veiled to suddenly lose the strength and use of his back legs? He has always been healthy and active, but this morning I found him holding on and crawling by just his front legs and his back legs are dangling. He gets plenty of food, water, suppliments, and UV light. Any ideas?

are you sure he has enough uv? what kind of uv light do you have? i have seen this in an iguana that a family "rescued" in co and didn't give a uv light but I have never heard of it happening over-night. is there any possibility that the cham fell? thats all my ideas. JK

Hi-

Sounds like MBD. If the leggs are not useable you need to see a vet ASAP! Hope this helps!

It has most likely been developing for a while. Chams are masters of hiding problems until it overwhelms them. We need details of what food, gutload, brand of lighting, how you water and how much, what and when you dust, etc. Chances are he's developed a deficiency, but unless we know specifically what you do we can't help much.

The light is Active UV heat 100 watt flood, crickets (dusted with Calcium every other day), watered every day (misted cage lightly and he drinks directly from my spray bottle-comes over and opens mouth to take spray) He has always been very active.
The only recent change was repotted his ficus tree.

Only thing I can think is the light is about 10 months old. I just ordered a new one. Can he be helped or is it too late?

One thing I noticed is that you are overdosing the calcium. At this age he should only be getting calcium once a week. What vitamins is he getting and how often (it should be only about 2 times a month at this age), what's in your gutload?
