Boosting Temp in tank....

MejaNica Jun 03, 2005 06:02 AM

I have a 100w merc. vapor UV light in a 10" reflector hood on our 30 gal. tank. I have strip thermometers at each end and re-checked temps w/ a digital thermometer/hydrometer (and amazingly they were correct or off by 2deg's). Anyway, my tank is only getting upto around 91-93 degrees at the basking site. What would be the best way to boost it just another 10 degrees or so? Would I just get one low wattage reg. bulb and try to keep it towards the middle to bump the heat up or ??? I don't want to fry the guy either!

Thanks!
-Bonnie

well the suggested temp range is 95-110....if you have 91-93 then what is two or three degrees difference amongst friends? I'm sure that there are days in the dessert where the high temperature is 91-93. i bet you're fine.

i just bought a 100watt MVB and i'm not getting the temperature i'd like either. And i'm not sure if it's all that great of an idea to put a basking stick too close to the light. I'm not sure of the UV intensity is too high at say 10 inches.

You can add a 40-60W regular bulb near the basking site to increase the temperature. It's good to have a range of basking spot temps, running between 95-115F this way the dragon can move about into areas of high to low temps to bask as he needs.
