Doing online research is a good way to start answering many of the basic questions you will have as a new person, I am providing a link below that should get you started. Please read it and also you might want to check the link on it that go into more detail.

You can also check out other breeders and reptile caresheets information such as Dr Kathryn Tosney's

Just My $0.02 here:

depends on his age when you get him?

just for reference I got my kid at about 4" long 4 months back.

today he is just a tad over 15"

first habitat was a 20 high tank, that was ok for about 3 months.

before then I got a 65 gallon "Reptarium" at the local PetsMart
it's about 18" high by 3' x 3' not quite 3 foot but close to it.

for the first 6 -7 weeks I mostly kept him in his tank as he was so small....

now he spends at least an hour or two a day out of the reptarium to give him time to exersize and explore.....

darn if he dosent seem to want to sleep behind my kitchen garbage can .... I think he finds it a cool dark corner that smells like a "Bug Place"
