pinkish spots on shell?

nate_and_melo Jun 03, 2005 11:45 AM

I own two yellow bellied cooters one of which is older and is healthy, while the other is younger (close to a year old) and has recently had pinkish spots on the top of his shell. I didnt know if it was algea or something else. What is confusing is that they both live in the same tank and everything why one of them would be sick and the other not.

any help on what might be the pinkish/light redish spots on shell would be greatly appreciated. THANKS!

- 10 gallon tank with UV light
- Feeding: aquatic turtle food occasionally lettuce
- Constant temp of 80
- anything else need to know?

Do these spots look like shell rot? www.anapsid.org/shellrot.html has information about treatment.

I have done some research on shell rot and still dont know for sure whether or not for sure that this is the problem. Both turtles are showing signs of the spots on their shells now and we have been treating them with 'dip away' for 2 days now. is there any other suggestions that you may have? All of the images i have found online concering shell rot are LARGE single areas. The spots on my turtles are tiny and all over the place (but it is def. eating away at the shell). Thanks for your reply.

Sorry, no. I'd take them to a vet if they were mine.
