The importance of deworming?

goini04 Jun 03, 2005 12:53 PM

Hi all,

How many have gone through the process of deworming their crocs? I havent' been able to find much info about the importance of deworming crocodilians. Chris Dieters book offers info on how to do it, but I would like to know what types of effects can happen if deworming hasn't been done? If anyone has any personal experience, as well as some documentation they can share, that would be fantastic.

Thanks a bunch!

Chris

In all honesty not all crocodilians need to be dewormed. Some species, such as freshly imported Paleosuchus greatly benefit from a reduced parasite load during the process of acclimating to captivity.

Otherwise worming, IMHO, should be done on a case by case basis. Most CBB animals raised as hatchlings in captivity will not usually have a problem with parasites as long as their food supply doesn't consist of wild game.

Chris,

Thanks for the response. Makes sense, and that is sort of what I was thinking, but wanted to check with the pro's first.

Thanks again,

Chris
