Florida Shelters

sprastr Jun 03, 2005 05:37 PM

Hey all. I live in Florida, namely the Tallahassee area and I've looked in the yellowpages for a shelter that takes in reptiles. I'm sure there must be someplace because there are always people who find themselves unable to continue care of their reptiles. Does anyone have any information this? Thanks.

There are plenty of people here on this site that would glady take in unwanted snakes....

Not for me dove. Thanks for the link though. I'm just in the process of setting up for a reptile and would rather take one in that needs a home than buy one off the market. I think if more people did that, we wouldn't have half as many unwanted reptiles taking up space in the shelters. Thanks again

Well when you adopt from an unwanted shelter, you usually are going to be in for more than a typical snake purchase. Usually you will either get something like a one eyed snake, one thats a problem feeder, tends to regurgitate a lot has parasites or mites (common!)...and you will have to deal with these problems.... not something I would reccomend to a first time snake owner. However, I do applaud your wanting to help. I live down in Panama City, but I know of a pretty good breeder up there, and one in Pensacola if you want to get one close by... email me.
