Keeper from Last Year

John Q Jun 03, 2005 07:35 PM

Lots of eye candy being posted. Congrats to all. Been going crazy looking at all the clutches and new hatchlings. Meanwhile I'm waiting on eggs in the cooker and a couple more clutches to go. So I decided to share a pic of one of my males from last year. I plan on breeding him back to mom next season. Opinions welcome!

He's gorgeous - great colors and pattern! What does mom look like?

Hi,

Nice looking snake, I like the spot on the tail. Take care and good luck!

Ringer or not...if he hatched out of one of my eggs I'd hold him back too. Great looking ball.

Dad is a 100% het for albino, VPI high contrast line. Very dark, close to what some keepers refer to as melanistic. Mom is a big girl, 3000 grams. She has the so called het for pied belly markers. When I look at this male I see the reduced pattern, very light head, blushing on his back, and his ringer mark. Add 50% het for albino and he's a keeper.
The clutch was 8 but 2 went full term and died. Of the 6 that hatched, 5.1 The odds gods were not kind to me or so it seemed at first. There were 4 ringers in the group. I lost the female which absorbed the least amount of egg yolk. She came out of the egg thin in comparison to the others. I kept 3 males. One is nearly identical to the male in the pic and the other looks like a granite. So maybe the odds gods were good to me. Hopefully I'll see this coming season.
