Sorry guys, I was in AZ for the last few days. The Blacktail below was shot with a 20D, Tamron 28-75 and a Canon 550ex.
As far as what you can find in Hudspeth County this week; it should be dang good hunting. The area is soaked; rain everywhere! This picture was shot there yesterday just north of Sierra Blanca on FM1111. I've found more snakes in one night there than any place that I've ever hunted when conditions are right. Don't hold your breath though if you're alterna hunting. I'm headed back out tomarrow to see what I can find. Sure is allot easier to bag snakes with a compact flash than a pillow case. Don't count out FM 54 north of Van Horn either; lots of recent rain there too. 54 is one of my favorites.

On a side note for those wanting to know. It rained all the way from Marfa, Alpine, Marathon, Sanderson, Langtry, Comstock and Del Rio last night. The hunting should be good in a couple of days barring any more rain storms. As long as I don't go, you guys will probably do good. When I go, floods come and DOR's come out of the wood work.

What about the first week of August...is 1111 and 54 pretty decent then, or is it too hot? Thanks in advance. mark

What do you care. You can't get out there and back in a day anyway. Stay somewhere close Maakie, you will do better. Besides, what do you think you're driving anyway....................a Chevy Blazer? NOT!!!!!!!!

Dude, I'll be out there...looking for you. What are you doing home anyway? Afraid of the dark (of the non-moon)? Maybe I'll see you somewhere Sunday night. May go south since everyone is west...you know how I have a hard time getting along with others...except Caleb.

Actually Aug is the rainy season out there and can be very good IF there have been rains.

This little guy followed my family and I while out hiking near the Grand Canyon. I wonder if I should change my name to "Dances with Coyotes"? He got within 10 or so feet of me when I took this shot. Maybe he finally gave up chasing the Roadrunner and was looking for handouts.

Made the same trek last week. May have seen the same critter. We hiked the South Rim, met up with a couple who hiked from the North to the South, the South to the North, then back again. Now, THAT'S hiking. Was wild to see temps in the 40's in Flagstaff, high 90's in Phoenix. A good trip.

North rim to South and BACK! now that's crazy right there. That would have to have taken them forever; not to mention the climbing, repeling, crossing the Colorado. Sounds like fun. Maybe 10 years ago.

Not even 10 years ago for me...you should've seen how happy they were when we offered them an orange! BTW, any idea what a small, reddish/brownish looking snake cruising across the road at a high rate of speed north of Sedona may have been? There was a line of race cars behind me that would've rivaled the tire testers, so I couldn't stop. But the snake made it across.

not a clue..but if it were me hunting it woulda been something good that got away. I guess that makes herping allot like fishing.
