Bad news...

For me anyway... One of my newest balls died yesterday. She was a little beauty and very "calm". I thought she was calm at first, but then decided lethargic was a better adjective. I got her from PETCO (I know I know, I won't do it again). I actually bought two, one is eating everything, live pre-killed and f/t gaining weight nicely and explores everywhere she can. The other, Shaggy, died after her first meal. Not right after, about two weeks after. She pooped and it looked fine, but she wouldn't accept anything after the first meal. I know balls can be picky, so I thought she would come around and eat again in no time, or in some time. Unfortunately I was wrong. I hate the fact that hindsight is 20/20, because I thought she was just calm until she died. It sucks, but the experience has taught me a lesson that I have heard from so many herpers...buy ESTABLISHED CBB! Here is one of the only pictures I got of her in the short time she was with me. She is the smaller one on the left with the high contrast.

Sorry to hear about your loss. From the photo it looks like she was quite the looker.

I've bought a few snakes from pet shops in the past dispite the bad rep they all seem to get. Not all pet stores are bad...even some of the big chains have a store or two that is lucky enough to have a few knowledgable employees that actually care about the animals. The trick is simply to know the shop, it's employees and the care the animals get. Sometimes it can be an inexpensive way to pick up a female or two.
