where to get tank clips?

Silvergrin Jun 04, 2005 12:29 AM

A while ago, on the other coast of the US, I aquired an aquarium-type tank and screen top from a reptile store. To hold this screen top firmly upon the tank, I also purchased these metal clips. They are a bugger to get off but the tank is quite escape proof. It's physically impossible for the snake to get out without braking the lid or something.
I'd like to get some more of these, as I recently found a cache of used aquariums cheap. Only problem is, I don't know what they're called other than "tank clips" and searching online for this sort of item only gets me lids with attached clips, not these separate metal clips. And now I live in Baltimore, and there seem to be no specialty herp stores (they are, at best, "aquarium and reptile" stores, usually focusing on aquariums, and don't seem to be of much help for anything but the most basic herp supplies)

Can anyone help point me at an online store that sells these, or even tell me if there's a more specific term for them that I can search by?

Yeah, I even took photos, to further elucidate the object of my quest! *dork*

hey, i use those on all my tanks. i don't know the proper name for them either. but i've gotten mine at petco. also some other pet stores have them that have a reptile department. they do come big also. i have a 80 gallon tank that has big ones on them compared to my 20 gallon tanks.
and just so you know i use a flat head screw driver to pry them off. works great and saves your fingers.

Yup...I get mine at PetCo too...all different sizes there too.

Thanks! Petco had some. :D I also just found an online store that sells them for a bit less, tho with shipping things will probably be about the same.

I have ordered those online from "That Fish Place" in Lancaster, PA (web site is www.thatfishplace.com). Cool store too if you ever get up to the Lancaster area. Another store closer to you though is the House of Tropicals in Glen Burnie, MD (7389 BALTIMORE ANNAPOLIS BOULEVARD SUITE F, GLEN BURNIE, MD 21061, (410) 761-1113). I know they sell reptiles and may have those clips there as well.
