Deformed Shell

JeremyM0384 Jun 04, 2005 02:34 AM

I have this painted turtle and its Spine Sticks out of its shell sorts, I just got it a few weeks ago. Please help. What do I do if its deformed? What do I do to take extra care of it? if you can see the pic very well, look at how teh spine bumps out of the shell. Its in a Gatorade cap, and it seems to do fine though.

Sorry but I can't tell from the picture. The only thing you can really do is make sure that the turtle gets a good, well balanced diet and plenty of UVB. A vet check would also be a good idea

This looks much more like a baby BOX turtle than a painted from the blurred picture. They normally have raised light areas along the spine. If it is eating well, continue with your care program. If NOT - try cut-up red worms and gradually switch it over to a prepared diet, such as Reptomin or Mazuri. Also, offer it an area to get out of the water and a hiding area - they are very secretive in the early years. Keep us informed of its status.

Just rechecked the picture - this is defintely NOT a painted turtle and almost DEFINITEY a box turtle.
