I just bought a very pretty female RES from the store the other day. She's about 4in. I decided to go w/ a bigger one, since my battle with some babies I had didn't have such a good outcome. No matter how hard I tried I couldn't get them to survive. Anyway, she seems perfect. No sores anywhere, bright eyes, very active. She's always basking (until I come in the room then she jumps). I have a UVA & UVA florescent light and a basking light. The water temp is about 80. I have a fluvel(sp) filter. She seems happy. But she won't eat. To save the cleanliness of the tank, I've been trying to feed her in a separate container. But she just sits there. The guy at the petstore said to feed her pellets, and I've been trying that. I was going to go out and buy some little fishies today and see if she'll go after those. Any ideas? Thanks

If you just got her the other day then she is probably still stressed from the move. Since she is so new you might have better luck feeding her in the tank for the first few times. It might be a little less stress on her to be able to eat in the tank and not be picked up and moved. Try to leave her alone as much as possible for the next few days, dont handle her, tap on the glass, or even stare at her too much. She really needs some time to destress.

As far as things to feed her, at this age she needs lots of veggies in her diet as well as protein. Veggies can consist of: Collard, mustard, and dandelion greens, endive, escarole, and any dark leafy greens (except spinach) fruits can be given as well. As far as protein, if she doesn't take to the pellets you can try: Crickets, earthworms, mealworms, frozen fish food (the cubes of bloodworms, brineshrimp, beefheart and veggie mix, also frozen krill and silversides). If you want to try giving her fish try feeder guppies and stay away from goldfish.

What is the temperature at her basking spot? And also, what size tank it is? Other than that things sound ok, i would just leave her be for a little bit.

Agreed....moving her to feed her is probably stressing her out. Feed her inside of the tank until she's had time to adjust. Best of luck! ~Christy

I noticed you have UVA & UVA florecent light. I figure it is a typo and you did mean to put in a B instead of a A for the second UVA.

Now...If it wasnt a typo, you need a UVB bulb!!!!! Very Important....
