Building a shed/ moldy wood

Brian67 Jun 04, 2005 10:04 AM

I'm planning on building an 8x10 shed in my back yard with heat and electric. The lumber yard I work for has a new bunldle of 2x4x8' kd studs with a little green mold on them. For that reason they are cull and can't be sold for houses. Does anyone know if it would be okay to use them for the shed? They will be covered with insulation and sheet rock. The outside will be plywood.

they can be used but i would definately take a bleach soulution ( all bleach) and a garden sprayer or a cloth and wash/ wipe them down that will kill the mold on them . Mold can be a bad thing and cause lots of sickness so long as its treated for use in the shed i wouldnt worry to much.

You need to kill the mold and make sure it cannot come back. There is a product sold at home depot and lowes that is designed to prevent mold from coming back. It's called KILZ. It looks like white paint just a little thicker and heavier. It works great. It does have a nasty odor and fumes when your applying it and during the time that it is drying. Wear a mask!
It works and in my experience it is a permanant solution.
