Shedding Problems?

Doug89 Jun 04, 2005 12:25 PM

Hi Guys! A couple of days ago i was optimistic that my snake would finally shed. Her eyes were milky blue and the blue around her eyes had turned to gray. But now her eyes have gone back to normal. The blue around her eyes is still whitish gray but she hasnt shed yet. Any ideas? Is this normal or should i start soaking her? By the way she is a leucistic Texas Rat and shes about 8-9 months old. Thanks!

They'll go cloudy, then clear up, then shed. Wait a few days. I usually only soak or offer a "humid box" if the shed goes bad and is incomplete. Duffy

How Are yours attitude wise? The species is supposed to be one of the worst for rat snakes but mine is an Angel (most of the time ) Nice looking snakes!

I really think the "attitude" of Texas Rats is overstated. While my leucistic Texas Rat IS the only one of my snakes that has bitten me (hard to believe)... He hasn't taken a swipe at me in years. He would strike when first picked up as a younster, but soon grew out of it.

My friend breeds Texas Rats, and more of his are calm than not. My other Tx was given to me by him as a starving hatchling (would NOT eat!). He was skin and bones, and my friend said, "If you can get him to eat...He's yours." I finally got him eating decapitated pinkies and now he can eat hoppers. I think he was so weak when I got him that it was just never in his nature to be mean...Not enough energy to strike.

Anyway...Great snakes. Gotta love 'em. Duffy

My leucistic black rats are very flighty. If I even hesitate to pick up the male he will bite. They both musk but with some time I think I can get them to mellow out.
I had some hypo corns(arent corns suppossed to be mellow?)that would bite me everytime...Paul
