Blue Mountain Coral Snake

inchoate Jul 13, 2003 11:34 AM

Does anyone have any hard info on these little guys? I don't keep any venemous, but for a few years of my childhood (oil-brat) we were based in South East Asia, where all sorts of snakes passed through my hands. (In kalimantan, I paid a few dollars to anyone who would bring me to a snake as opposed to kill it.) I was just talking to a friend, and he reminded me about two of these that we had found. On one occasion, on the road at night, we found a small cat playing with a snake, and according to a (not terribly good) guid) it was a "Blue Mountain Coral Snake." This was before the internet, and so we were only able to discern some very limited information- ie that envomnation was rare if not unheard of, and I have completely forgotten the generic name it listed. Does anyone know what I'm referring to? It was a slender elapid, about 30-40 cm, its head seemed designed for some degree of burrowing, nocturnal on both occasions, light blue blushing located immediately posterior to the head. I wish I had photographed so much more of what we encountered.
Anyway, this is purely out of curiousity, but if anyone does know something, thanks a lot in advance
-SWA

Maybe one of the subspecies of Maticora bivirgata? Check out the link.
