Welcome to Az. Chucks can be found on all the mountains around the valley. Best thing to do is getting a hiking trail book and go hiking. You'll see chucks for sure.

thnx, takes a little getting use to with the heat and all!! anyways another question, when u all go out and catch these chucks, is it a straight catch and release or do u keep some and if so how well do they adapt to capivity? just wondering because i would like to aquire a chuck, but am wondering if i should buy or catch one?? thnx for any replies

Robert unfortunately you cannot purchase chucks in AZ. You are allowed to catch and keep 4 on a small game hunting license. Proper caging and they adapt pretty good. You will be able to tell within a month if they will adapt. If they refuse to eat and bask in a month put them back to where you got them provided they were not near any other reptiles in your collection. SOme are very freindly and adapt quite easily. I think if you have any experience with reptiles you will be able to tell. Good luck, keep us posted and above all post pictures. I will send you a husbandry article. Tom

I usually don't catch them, just see how close I can get for photos. Once you catch them, the photos don't turn out very good. Sometimes you can get real close and get a natural shot.
Ocassionally I'll catch and release them. I did have a captive pair of chucks but sent them back to Tom G. today. I'm going to get another pair from a different location. I keep them in an outdoor enclosure that is shaded during the hottest part of the day. They are very cool lizards and are pretty easy to keep.
