psycho beardie

waltorian Jun 04, 2005 07:08 PM

I have a Dragon that I think is about 7 months old, his name is Theodore. He is a eating machine, hes about 12" long and getting kind of plump in the middle. Everytime I go to feed him he acts like he is starving. I have seen so much conflicting information on what and how much and when to feed him its making my head spin, then theres the substrate issue, good grief calcisand says is the best but I heard its bad. then I was told to use play sand but it seems like when he eats his crikets hes getting a mouth full of sand with it. So I dont know what the heck to do.. so far he doesnt seem to really like to be handled so should I jast handle him more or what.. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated....Waltorian

My beardie is about 15 inches and 1 year old. She eats like crazy too If your worried about your beardie getting play sand in it's houth, do as I did... Use washed play sand and hand-feed your beardie silkworms. They are better than crickets and bigger too. This way, as long as your hand isn't full of sand, your beardie won't get a mouth full of it

Rebel, my bearded dragon has been confirmed as a female. We all thought she was male Anyways, I couldn't be prouder....

What i do is leave greens in there 24/7 on a large piece of cardboard (from what i notice they drag around the greens and sand sticks to it sometimes so i use the cardboard to prevent this). When feeding it crickets bring him into a seperate container and let him get all you can eat. Leave greens in there in the morning and feed him crickets in the afternoon/night.

Hi
put youre cricks 1 min in freezer til just the leggs stop moving.
and then dust them and put them on a flat flagstone rock.
the crickets wil come alive if they just cooled of.
so they r easy to hunt and wil not hide in 5 sec
also the flagstone wil prefend to much sand in mouth.
yep calsisand is bad it can form one piece grain by grain then end result impaction.

i use already 5 years the wasched playsand type 350-400 degree heated .
its special for on the floor for pignons.
i even put my hatchlings direct on it i never have problems.
if you wanan take out youre beardie and make him tamer, then its all abouth you aproach him.
very low above the ground with youre hand/fingers you scope him up so he see youre hand come towards him and then let him climb on youre hand r finger.
if you pick him up from above yhe wil think you r a eagle/bird who wanna hunt for him.
dith you know they have a 3 eye above on top of his head in middle?
look ontop of his head you see between his eeye a dot.
with that he can see uvb/uva rays.
if a bird fly trough the uvb/uva rays he notice it like a lazer alarms he break the beems!!!
