Melanistic

Lizarddude720 Jun 04, 2005 07:51 PM

I heard if ueither lower the temperature in the incubator the geckos will hatch in a darker color. i dont know where i heard this or read it but it said someting that the temperature will effect the color and gender of the baby leo. Would this make it a real melanistic gecko or would the color appear later on in life? If it did come out almost black and stayed black and i bred it later on in life will there b a chance for more melanisic geckos?

Thanks
Paul

Changing the temp while incubating has nothing to do with genetics all it does is add fake color. If bred the color will NOT be passed on. Right now there is no such thing as a melanistic leo...the darker normals are often called that just by mistake.

There are no such thing as melanistic leopard geckos.... Melanistic is a genetic trait, not a temp manipulated or line bred color morph.... Your chances of producing true melanistic leos is 0%.....
