I just got a new baby anaconda. It's about 2& 1/2 feet long. He spends about 90% of the time in the water. Is this normal?

If the anaconda is new you may start to witness some behavior changes over time. I know I notice periods of time they spend 100% of their time in water and others they will be tucked away in a hide. It really is hard to define normal for an anaconda. It is normal for them to go long periods without eating and it is normal for them to over eat. But I really responded to comment on a very nice looking display you have there. I am curious to see how long you keep a green anaconda set up like that. Its going to be tough lol. Very pretty though.
I agree, just make sure the water stays clean and he/she isn't in it 7 days a week, just in case of water blisters. Enclosures like that are awesome, very very nice display. If we could just increase the size about 20-30x for an adult green, then it would be even better!
Also, it looks like a very beautiful Green, even from a distance!

` That is really a beautifully decorated habitat.
`
` You ought to take some pix of it, then tear it down.
` An Anaconda in that set up might go a year, without disease. It will probably come much sooner, however.
` Keep in mind that the habitat is for the well-being of the captive critter. When you get too interested in how it looks to you, and others, the captive often suffers.
` Good Luck.
` Ugly? Oh yeah, but it is clean, and easy to clean. Also hard for detritus to hide in this setup. Spot cleaning is easy.
` And, the snakes don't give a damn what it looks like. Also, when the water is clean, and of acid pH, and the snakes have no pre-existing conditions, they don't get water blisters, no matter how long they soak

Stop the world-I want to get off!
Thanks to all of you who responded to my question,it was very helpful. I just want to add that I know I wont be able to keep him in this set up for long , but I am going to enjoy it while I can. When he out grows it he will be placed in a very large and simple custom cage I will build. Also it seems as though there are concerns about the water. The tank is a 75 gal. with about 25 gallons of water in it. I have an under gravel filter and also a huge canister filter that can handle 135 gallons of water. Also there is a large under tank heating mat to keep the water warm. I have a very similar set up for my dwarf caimen also. I will change out the water about every 30 days..Once again thanks for the responses, i look forward to more...
Very nice looking enclosure. I'm gonna have to agree, though, that it's going to be a nightmare to keep clean. Like you said, though, enjoy it while it lasts.
Congrats
