Inheritance of patterns?

MejaNica Jun 04, 2005 10:51 PM

I'm really interested in genetics and previously bred color mutation peach-faced lovebirds & my daughter bred rabbits.

Since we have recently gotten our first BD .. I've been reading up on everything I can find. I have read everything I think there is out there on coloration, but haven't really seen anything on patterning. I love some of the patterns on the BD's and they fascinate me, so I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on the inheritance of those? (I know Sundial Reptiles recently had a BD hatch out that's pattern looks like a zipper ... are there any other unique patterns popping up and has anyone tried to see if they can be passed on?)

I know there is a breeder that has bred dragons called pinstripe. They have stripes going from their necks to the tail base. They have been proven genetic but are quite rare.

Proven genetic that are stripes and rare? I don't think so. Every several months for years people have posted these photo's of babies with the pin striping down their necks to the tails and wonder if they are something new... they are not and they are not a proven trait. You can breed two parents with them and gt no babies with them.... and usually they show up form parents that did not have them

We have hatched out young that have stripes, circles, wing patterns, disks, blotches, boxes, zig-zag, zipper patterns and yin yang pattern in the same clutch. None of them are rare
