Hey everyone, I'm no sure where to post this, but I hope this would be hte place. I recently made some vids of my Savannah Monitor eating a few rats. My camera only records 15 second movies, so they are short, but cool. He ate a total of about 6 or so, but the videos are of him eating 3 seperate rats. He hadn't eaten rodents in a while, so my friend came by to bring some. This is not meant to be cruel or anything in anyway, but just more of an interesting process to watch.

A few questions:

I saw what appeared to be a half log, I'm guessing used for sleeping or basking, what is it doing out on newspaper?

Also, why do you feed him such large prey? Why not buy smaller and more?

1.3 feeder mice I've seen hunchin, let's see if they still got it in em'!

Actually, those are small for that monitor. Mice would be like popcorn to it.. probably suck down 10 of them or so. I know my Sav would and she's bigger than that one. I feed mine rats about that size and sometimes a little bigger. Never had a problem doing so either.

Yeah they were yonug rats. I normally feed him medium to large rats, but like i said, my friend brought them, so i figured what they heck, free food. and yeah he ate 6 of them, so quite a bit. lol

ok first question:
The log was his hiding spot when he was little, but he's outgrown it by a lot, so i use it to knock the rats out before i feed them to him. that's why it was out. and the newspaper was there so i could feed him.

2nd question:
those rats actrually aren't large meals for him, he ate 6 of them. but the videos show him eating 3. but yeah my friend jsut had tem and brought them over so it was free =D
