OMG!! What now?

Stryder Jun 05, 2005 12:24 AM

So I moved my entire herp collectoin to my new house today. All went well, for the most part. I moved my incubator on my lap, as gently and carefully as possible. I got it aall set up comfy in the new snake room. Went back to check temps a couple hours later, and there's a little cornsnake pipping!!

They are not due until the 12th. (Mama did double clutch, and I added few more eggs to the incubator last night.) Could I have disturbed him into hatching with the move? So far, it looks like just one.........

What can I do for the little dude? I am pretty much unprepared fro thier arrival. Do you s'pose he'll be OK? How early is too early for a hatchling to survive?

I was really hoping all would go well. Now I am fretting. I hope he's OK.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Treat this little fella like any other hatchling. A small enclosure, hidespot and damp (but clean!) paper towels are perfect for the first day or so until the umbilicus has healed. As for being premature, there again, isn't much you can do, but nothing is necessary if the animal looks fully formed.

Thanks. I am excited.

It has been over 15 hours, and he is still not fully emerged from the egg. So far, it still looks like he is the only one.

Well, I took a closer look at him, and he was stuck. It seems that egg had slightly dried, and kinda curled in around him. I snipped away a small piece of the egg, and he came slithering out. SO CUTE!!

However, he has what seems to be a small portion of the yolk still atatched to to him. I placed him in a small, warm spot, on a damp paper towel, and we are just hoping for the best.

At least I do not have a dead baby rotting in the middle of my clutch of eggs..........

Sounds good, I'm sure it'll do well
