Is it safe to have two beardies together? and a Health Question

kay1688 Jun 05, 2005 05:52 AM

I was reading on a website that to see the full range of beardie behaviour you shoudl put more than one together but i don't want to breed them is it safe to put two females or two males together. My tank is big enough if they can.

About my beardies Health. I noticed he was looking plump and i was thinking about feeding him less then he did his business but it was WAYYYY more than usual. now he looks alright again. do you think he was impacted or something like that. do you think it will happen again?

Thank you in advance for any replies.

I tis definitly NOT a good idea to keep two males together, and i have heard mixed reviews on male/female unles you are breeding. The best is two females, as long as you have a big enough tank for each to have their territory.
i don't know about the health question, it just sounds like he ate a lot and then pooped it out.

Thank you
I have heard the same about two male beardies. The thing is i have doubts about my beardies Gender. The pet shop said that it was Female then after research i thought it was male but now i am having my doubts again. the top of the tail is broad and there are two slight bumps under the base of the tale which i have heard signifies a male because i femal has a bump in the middle. There are also things that lead me to think female like a light bearde, less agressivness than my friends and the build. Anyway thank you for your advice.

If it has the 2 bulges it IS a male. Color, head shape, ect are not true indicators.

Avoid any kind of problems or stress; separate them.

I wouldnt do it. Read the below post someone put about one beardie being larger than the other. There are a variety of health problems that can occour when beardies are housed together, even if they are both females. Basically the bottom line is it isn't a good idea, i really wouldnt do it.

The exception to this would be if you have a very large tank (125gallons or more) and can accomadate one male and two or more females. Although if you do this you have to be prepared to deal with breeding and the health issues related to that.
