chirping sounds?!

rdbeal Jun 05, 2005 08:49 AM

When I go to bed at night I hear chirping sounds coming from the tank of our snapper. He/She (still don't know the sex if it has anything to do with it) seems to be as active as he always was, still eating normally, no signs of difficult breathing. Is this a normal sound coming from a snapper?

If you have a glass aquarium as a home, the sound might be his nails scraping the glass. My smallest snapper used to get real active at night and I could hear that. And my RES is making that noise right now as she swims around her tank trying to get at the fishtank next to her

Well, unfortunately, that can't be it, although I do hear sounds form his nails scraping sometimes. I've heard these sounds with him sitting perfectly still.

I think I understand your chirping. I think it's the turtle breathing, I've noticed this in my painted turtle. It could possibly be a respiratory problem, so I recommend taking your little guy to a vet.

It is normal for snappers to be active at night. I have gravel in my tanks, and they will dig all through the night.

Snappers make all kinds of sounds...chirpping, hiss, growl, etc. My snapper even trained me to feed her everytime she chirpped at me!
