WOOHOO ....finally ...and advice?

I think i made a mistake on day 53 by cutting the eggs open (as large as i did).

Here it is day 59 and the first one out is trying to wander with its umbilical still attached. It looks as if the cord has "noosed" around the yolk sac as well.

What should i do with him...wait?...or go ahead and move him to a shoebox? ....hrm

I say tie it off as close as you can to the belly of the snake. It looks healthy enough for you to tie it off now and it could mess the snake up if it stays connected.

It didn't look as if he/she was going to be able to use it anyway huh...

How long do you leave them in the incubator?
Until they fully absorb?
So what should i do with this one?

btw: Here is mom and dad again...

Once they are fully out of the egg I set them up in a seperate container...so I'd say she's ready to be set up..just make sure you put her on a moist paper towel until she sheds out...especially with that thing hanging from her...

Yea, Keep that paper towel moist you dont want the sac to dry out until he absorbs it.. Good luck Charles

No way the snake is going to absorb that. I'd like to hear the story behind this...

coldthumb Jun 05, 2005 01:07 PM

I didn't think so either. It appeared to be completely constricted.

The string actually cut it when i went to tie it off...
So there i am praying this little thing doesnt decide to move while i try to tie it on to an even smaller target..lol

made a mistake by doing it and getting worried. arent u supposed to only cut an egg when u see the hatchling physically having trouble coming out

coldthumb Jun 05, 2005 12:45 PM

I was a little concerned about the way the surface of the shells looked.Very lumpy.Almost as if they were thick in some areas.

I had originally intended to only make a small slit on the tops. However my curiousity got the better of me.

people wonder why I always preach to not cut the eggs .even on day 65.........

worry they'll ""get stuck and die""......

.......why not worry they'll pull the sack off and bleed to death?....lose the sack and lose all the nutrients they need to start life fat and not skinny and weak?....

anyways.....

now that it's all messed up....stick it in a shoebox or deli-cup wet it and dump out the water... no substrate or anything else......just wetted cup so that it can drag that lump around with it and not have it rip........and let it be till it hopefully heals and drops off the sack by itself.......

........

wow.....did you think of that all by yourself?.....
better take a break ................

That is how it came out of the egg,and there really was no way to untie the noose on the yolk.Otherwise i probably would have done just as you described, and let it fully absorb while in a tub.

Thanks for the advice and constructive criticism nonetheless.

Just a question for anybody that cares to answer it; why is it with Ball Python breeders that they have to cut the eggs open? I have not really seen that with any other reptile breeders, even with reptiles that take 9 months or sometimes longer to hatch. Just curious, that's all.
