SENEGAL COLORS ARE WEIRD

ryandonnelly Jun 05, 2005 03:23 PM

last night i wasnt able to sleep at my house so i turned off his lights, hes my only cham inside the rest are in outdoor cages. His tree is next to a big window which i left cracked last night and it got kinda cold out around 65 and this morning his coloring was different, he is usually just very bright green only showing a little yellow spots when he is mad but he had like black all over him making him look all green and black, and so i tried to find out what was wrong and he was thirst so i put him in a shower to his if that would help and he turned a little lighter but then i left to run go get some things and when i came back he was almost entirely black. Doese anyone have any idea what his problem could be??? If anyone has any info please let me know thanks a lot
Ryan

If his cage is beside a cracked window, I think the obvious problem is that its too cold or too much wind coming through.

Curious as why you have just the one cham inside. Is his basking spot warm enough, 80-90's? More importantly than the shower is if he is drinking, how are the urates?

Senegals have a wide range of colors and patterns. From a very pale green to black. Sometimes they will look like brown argyle socks. Sometimes very spotted. I love this species. The pale green with yellow spots doesn't seem to be the aggravated display. I think the million-spots would indicate some type of excitement. Or the diamonds along their sides.

I guess putting them in the shower with tepid water is okay. I just usually keep them outside and provide ample water with misters and the good old garden hose two or three times a day. My climate is favorable for keeping the chameleons outdoors this time of year.

If you need any help with senegals, please feel free to contact me directly. I'm not on the internet as much as I used to be.
