Can A Northern Water snake be calmed down or will it always be a biter? This one seemed to be calm when i initially caught it but when i had it in the bag he began striking and flipping out but now hes in a container and seems to be calm, i havent actually held him yet but maybe ill try later. I normally wuoldnt think twice about keeping him but he is nice looking hes got lots of red in him. Ill try to get a pic up. It seems pretty fat too maybe its a she and shes gravid! Thanks!

I caught one last year. Very aggressive little guy at first. He bit me ( you dont feel a thing) and after that was quite tame. Any snake can be calmed down with handling.

Most calm down. Not all do, but most do. Let it settle in and eat a few meals before handling. Bites are really nothing unless you have a truly massive one. I am used ot it.

I let him/her go.I think she may have been gravid so i let it loose in my friends pond (after i photographed it). She really calmed down alot since the other day. The first day i had her she was striking and musking all over. Yesterday she was calm i picked her up set her down in the grass and photographed her and she didn;t move an inch. Then i put her back in the container and took her over to the pond to release her. Hopefully now ill get to see her every now and then. Thanks!
