Psycho Burm

xtwizx Jun 05, 2005 04:11 PM

I've read about every thread on several forums on taming baby burms but I think my situation is a bit different. I brought home a late '04 granite female and of course it was fine to hold at the show and sure enough soon as I get it home it turns to satan himself. She struck my index finger and coiled my hand and had no intention of letting go till I wedged a spoon between her lower jaw and my finger. I thought it was my fault I could of pet the cat before hand, although I just got done cleaning 2 cages. So today I give it another try with a glove, still pissy and striking and it tried to eat the glove! It started to swollow the finger on the glove after I took my hand out. After a few squirts with the water bottle she let go. I'm not afraid to take a hit, my problem is it's not just a hit it's an "I'm going to eat your ass" bite and they suck to get them off without hurting it or myself more. She strikes at everything. I've lost count of how many snakes I've had that were fine to hold during purchase and got them home and this happens. Suggestions? I'd sooner handle my Rhino Viper than this girl!

Awwww how can you be mad at that face for long? She's TOO cute! lol
All I can say is...just keep handling her and she will get more and more used to you....

how long have you had her?

From what I read in your post this is only the 2nd time you have tried to handle her. If that is right you need to give her more time.

most burms will come around.

Good luck, and have fun!!!

have you given it time to settle in or just try to handle it right off the bat without any time to get settled in my retic was a chainsaw when i got her but now she's more gentle than a pup. she probably just needs more time. good luck

I agree with everyone here as well. It appears that she needs more time to settle in. She seems to be a bit stressed as well as a big hungry. Give her some time and she will be a sweet-heart before you know it.

P.S. I want a video clip of you and the Rhino Viper!!

Best Wishes,

Chris

I can shoot you a video of the Rhino but you won't see it in my hands lol. It's mostly just a bluffer so far, it hasn't struck at my hook or the grabber, just that puff adder hiss, puts burms to shame I guess she could need more time. I must have been lucky recently getting snakes that are tame on day 1. Even my super tiger from clark was very docile right out of the box and still is.

Hi...

I've been keeping and breeding Burms for years and every now and then I come a cross one like you have. They all seem to calm down but never seem trust worry if you know what I mean.

The best way to get a Burm, Boa, Retic, or Ball off you without causing more injury to your self or the snake is run their head under hot water. This will cause them to release you and letting their J shaped teeth out with out tearing your flesh or breaking their teeth.

Hope this helps.

Good Luck!!!

how big is she, even when my burm was a month old he was able to take down more than a pinkie, i found that after my burm ate and i left him alone for a day the next day he would be less aggressive, think about it maybe your burm is hungry,
