Strength of wood

JoshV Jun 05, 2005 04:55 PM

So I have 4 1*2*8 and 2 1*2*6 pieces of oak to build a cage. But since I have too make two cages, one smaller one and one bigger one, I thought that I should rip the wood, therefore having twice as much wood, saving a lot of money.

Now would wood 1*1 thick support a cage 4'*2'*2', or even 2'*2'*1/12' for that matter? My dad doesn't think it will, but I think it should. Has anyone made a cage with wood that thin? Most cages I see are 2*2 on the internet, but I have seen one or two 1*1.

thanks alot.

Sounds like a lot of work to simply "double" the amount of wood you have. Not only that but a lot of time in just "making" more wood, than in actualy building your cage. With 2 8ft peices of wood will give you your 4 4ft peices... maybe i'm just not understanding you are wanting..

I want to build two cages.. a 2'T*2'L*1 1/2W.. and a 4'*2'*2' cage. 4 1*2*8 and 2 1*2*6 aren't enough.

I think I am just going to put the chameleon in a tank (20 or 30 gallon) until it gets bigger than I will put it into the 4'*2'*2' cage.
