I was just wondering if you guys are keeping snappers for pets? Or are you raising them to be butchered and eaten? Where I come from we eat them and boy are they sooo good. I set up trout lines across our ponds with chicken livers and catch them to thin down the population in our ponds. If they are of any size (14 lbs) then we butcher them and have a turtle fry. Just want to see why you guys raise them.

I don't see how anyone could kill a turtle, or eat one for that matter. Maybe you were just being curious, but to come on here and ask that kind of question is like asking someone if they are raising 'man's best friend' for food. Hopefully one day you will respect these animals for the amazing creatures they are and let them live rather than devour their flesh. ~Christy~

i think you might be out of luck if your looking to find someone here that raises snappers to eat. everyone here keeps them as pets or educational purposes and it would be like someone asking you if you're raising your milksnakes to eat or as pets. i do agree that snappers are pretty tasty but its kind of hard to eat a pet.

Actually, I'm raising my two snappers to eat other people... Leave em in their pond out front of the house, and when the in-laws overstay their welcome... or those nasty bill collectors come by

Yeah I don't think many people on here eat their pets. I find it gross that anyone could eat a turtle but that might just be because I am so attached to mine. I am raising mine as a pet.
