I heard that these heat panels can only be used with an on/off type thermostat, is this true? can i use a helix proportional thermostat with a helix radient heat panel? what kinda thermostats do u guys use with radient heat panels?

Proportional is your best bet but analog will work good as well. Id say just go with a Johnson Controls, not to expensive and will last forever...

a proportional t-stat is much better, and will extend the life of your heater. the main thing that will lead to shortened heater life is turning the heater on and off... heating it up and letting it cool down, heat up cool down etc... If you use a proportional thermostat, it will just drop the temperature to a constant always on. (yes i know dimmers and prop t-stats work by turning the power on and off really fast, but the key here is heating and cooling.)
