ETB on death row pardoned at the last second!!

rolikei Jun 05, 2005 07:26 PM

A few weeks ago I went to my vet to get my dog checked on and he said he had just worked on an ETB that was in really bad shape and that was why I had been sitting in the waiting room so long. My vet knows I am really into herps so he always lets me know about any herp stories he has. After we were done I decided to have my dogs teeth done. So as I was waiting I overheard the owner talking about how he wasn't willing to pay for any medication or any future vet visits, and the vet said he was going to die most likely anyway. As the owner was coming out I asked if her was intersted in getting rid of him to someone that would pay for the vet bills and he passed it to me in a cardboard shoebox with cedar or pine in it, I couldn't tell because it was so dirty. I asked him what he kept it in at home and I was horrified when he said that was his cage. Anyway to make this story short he gave it to me on the spot. This is my first ETB so I was not ready when I brought him home so I had to set up a cage quick. And here he is five weeks later. He is eating without any problems and seems to have recovered really well.

Great story ! ! !

If snakes could talk, imagine the things he's be saying about you right now...you're his savior and you've put him in heaven (that beautiful set-up you've given him)!

Wow, what a great story! I'm so glad that snake has a truly great home now. The setup is just beautiful!

You know, there's an exotic pet group called Phoenix Exotics that is publishing a book on herp stories like this - they are still in need of TONS of stories. I think your story and photo is a great candidate. Email me at nekomi@winds.org if you'd like more info about the book, and I can put you in touch with the publisher and editors.

So often you hear or see cases of animal abuse or neglect and a lot of time it ends up being an unhappy ending... Good to hear this snake ended up with a great owner... Good luck with him!

he looks so content in the new cage, good job!
I was just wondering, what was wrong with him that needed vet care? Glad to see he is in a caring home now!

I am so delighted to read of your story!! I am always wanting to "rescue" animals, in one way or another ... just got my first Emmy myself, and it was one advertised on these classifieds. The price was very cheap due to his having some cosmetic "flaws" - some scarring on his face and a slight tail kink. Well, doesn't matter if he has a few tiny imperfections - he is beautiful, VERY nice for an Emmy, and eating eagerly for me. He loves his new home, I can tell!! His irridescence is breathtaking! So here's to all of us who follow their hearts, and to the animals whose lives are the better for it!!
