Bryan, are these animals that you produced yourself or did you buy them? Try tickling the tail....feeding about 15 minutes after lights out.....gently pinching the back.....rubbing the neck about 1/2-1" behind the head.....rubbing the lips with the pinky. This is why we stress buying ESTABLISHED CBB babies from DEDICATED BREEDERS. I'm not implying that your animals are import or otherwise. I'm just giving sound advice to anyone interested in owning a chondro for the first time. BABIES CAN BE A PAIN TO GET GOING. Believe me, I've been working on a clutch of 13 for 3 weeks and a second clutch of 9 happens to be hatching today. The main objective is getting the babies to strike and defend themselves.....and this isn't always easy. I can honestly say, I spend about 15-20 hours per baby getting them to be established feeders. Granted this is over a period of several months, but I cannot stress enough that new owners start with animals that are at least 4-6 months old and have had 15-20 meals.....and not scented...I'm talking pinky mice.

If these things don't get you started, let me know. There are a few other tricks as well. Sometimes scenting is required. And to those of you that may think I have an agenda of selling my CBB offspring....I'm keeping them all for myself. MUAAAHAHAHAHA!

Good luck and may the force be with you.

On the topic of reputable breeders, do you have any suggestions on where I might get a baby Manokwari which will eventually yield an adult with a lot of blue vertebral stiping? Thanks.-----RON

RON745 Jun 05, 2005 09:06 PM

Sorry. Should have read "striping".

Brandon Osborne Jun 05, 2005 09:37 PM

Not right off hand I don't. I don't know of anyone with "documented" locality Manokwaris, but you might want to try Dave Prada or Gary Shiavino(I hope I spelled that right). Although Gary does deal with quite a few imports, he actually take the time to get them going. I've heard nothing but good things about him. He also aquires CBB babies from a few breeders here in the U.S.

Good luck with the search.

If and of that doesn’t work, I once had a 1 month that wouldn’t constrict after striking. Then I found that if I took a live pinky and placed it in one of its coils or on the animal instinct would take over and he would kill it and eat it.
