Can these eggs be saved?

hat356 Jun 05, 2005 07:44 PM

I live next to a pond in Florida. There are several very large turtles in the pond which I believe are soft shells due to the shape of their heads and the slick, smooth shells. I cannot get close enough to get a really good look.
I found a nest of turtle eggs today about 10 feet from the bank that had been dug up by a racoon or armadillo. Ants were eating the broken eggs, but there were quite a few unharmed eggs in the sandy soil.
I scooped up the eggs that I saw into a large bowl and covered them with the same soil to about the same depth that I think they were originally buried.
Can I save these eggs...any ideas on what I should do with them? Can they still hatch?

Yeh they might be ok. As long as they wernt moved around to much they should hatch. Just keep them warm (about 80F) and moist to keep humidity up. Mist around the edges of the container your keeping them in (not directly on the eggs). You will want to cover the container there in with something to keep the humidity high. Just have a few small air holes. Dont loose hope, should take about a month for them to hatch.
