My sub adult female is smarter than I am!

bloodycats Jun 05, 2005 08:45 PM

Last week, my 03 female escaped. I followed the clues and determined her to be hiding somewhere in the basement drop cieling. So ten minutes ago, I'm on the computer and I hear her. I grab the flashlight and a stool, and behold, there she is! I move over to the nearest tile, it's stuck on something, by the time I pop it, she's heading behind the hot water pipes, and I've lost her again!

I have several tiles off and am thawing a rat or two to lure her out. What else can I do? This really stinks, knowing where she is but not exactly. She could be across the basement by now. That or she's watching me and laughing. Little stinker! Man do I hate escapes.

Was just about to call it a night, so I figured if she stays in the cieling, I'll find her soon enough. I began putting tiles back and there's her head poking out of one of the holes-- she smells that rat! I put it on tongs and she went for it. Of course as she lunged out of the cieling for the rat, I lunged for her. She got angry and held on to the cieling beams with all her might, hissing trough mouthful of rat, but I didn't get bit. There's a hole in the cinderblock wall she was hiding in, or at least that is my theory of where she went after I first spotted her.

Well, now she's enjoying a f/t rat back in captivity! Thank God. The two longest escapes I have had stand at one week a piece. I know I'll be checking cages and locks extra carefully from now on.

I just stumbled apon one of our escapees that had been missing since April 1st! I thought she was a gonner and stopped looking for her. Sure enough I get home and she's just lying there had a horrible shed, and the cat was staring at her. Although I did get partially bit, but I'm happy to have her back. She's a little skinny but 'gained?' weight while she was gone. I've never seen a snake so happy to be put in a tub!

I know when Harry was out it was soooo frustrating! I looked everywhere (but up) for weeks, then one day, there he was in the lights! I'm glad things worked out for you!

When I came home Saturday and one of the bathroom cieling tiles was on the floor, I immediately thought of your great escape pic. Who knows, if I hadn't seen you go through it before, maybe I wouldn't have thought to look in the cieling? I'd think my carpets could get in there without a hitch, but a big, fat ball python? Apparently they are more agile climbers than people give them credit for!
