Corn Island Boa Question

bps516 Jun 06, 2005 08:33 AM

I currently have a ball python and am looking to get a boa of some type. I spoke to a breeder who recommended corn island boas. He had a 5 year old female with him that was extremely tame (he said he had worked with her as often as possible). I wanted to see how other "Boa Knowledgeable" people felt. I want somthing that will not get too big (12 feet would be too big in my opinion for what my wife and I could handle). My wife is partial to red tail boas. Any suggestions?

There are many insular BCI (Boa constrictor imperitor) of which should be under 5ft, full grown, such as the Corn Isle Boa

With a 12ft. cap you basically do not have to worry about any B.c.ssp. growing too large for you. The largest infrequently reach 10ft. Those are old Colombian females and BCC females.

A bci common boa male would be a good choice. They are readily available and often quite inexpensive.

The male common boas usually to not get much bigger than 6 ft. to 7 ft. in length.
Good luck with finding a new pet.

You could pick up Honduran boas, as I recently did. Some are dwarf phase (ask the breeder how big his adults are) which get to 4-5 feet. Some also have orange bellies, and are quite beautiful. They cost a little more than colombians though.
