Baby corn not growing/ mushy stools

Colorfulcorns Jun 06, 2005 09:18 AM

I got this caramel corn free from a local pet store. They could not get her to eat.
I've been able to get her to eat but she doesn't seem to grow.
I've had her since March and she has shed twice.
I can get her to eat once a week.
Her stools are mushy and it looks like the skin of the pinky is in it.
I know this is not normal but what can i do to get her back on track. She has a really cool pattern and I'd hate to lose her.
Thanks,
Cory

use this type of treatment use Flagyl at .30cc's per 100 grams of snake and I use Panacur at .075cc's per 100 grams of snake. Again repeat in two weeks. Not only will it kill any ill parasites that may be lurking in your snake, but it will also increase the snakes appitite. You might also want to check your temps. Too warm will cause a corn snake to run its food through too quickly, not fully digested. Make sure that the temps are not much higher then the low 80's on the hot spot.
I don't use anything but room temps for my corns.
I hope this helps

If you dont have access to those meds at home or are unsure about self medicating (which can be very dangerous) then i would bring a fecal sample to a good reptile vet. If there are parasites they will treat them for you and if not they will be able to help you figure out what is going on.

Good luck.

Were would I get those medicines? How big and what kind of needle would I use on a baby corn?
Thanks,
Cory

opps, sorry to have assumed too much, my advice was a bit dangerous to give with out further instruction. First off the medicine is not injected but giving orally. I use a 6" long stainless steel ball tipped feeding tube to give the meds to my snakes, it gets the meds down past the spit back up stage.
The Meds are available from a Vets office, but if you are unfamilar with giving the meds, the person above is correct, go to the Vet and get advice from them.
If the local Vet is not really a herp Vet, just have him look up Dr. Maders' Guide for reptile Vet Medican (or some similar name, but the Reptile Vets medical guide, by Dr. Mader) It will provide plenty of information that even a large animal Vet (horses and Cows) can use to treat a simple parasite problem.
Good luck

where can these 'ball-tipped' feeding tubes be purchased? I once had to administer meds and it was a pain with the stubby syringe they gave me. btw, when my corns were on pinks there was very little stool.
